Cley next the Sea

Well Cottage

Well Cottage offers a peaceful and private location in which to enjoy a wonderful holiday at any time of the year; a traditional 17th century Norfolk flint cottage situated in a quiet hideaway down a hollyhock-lined path off the village green at Cley-next-the-Sea.

This spacious retreat, which has been sympathetically renovated to reflect its history, has a large inglenook fireplace and a private walled garden overlooked by the beautiful 13th century church of St. Margaret’s, Cley.  Many of the original features have been retained, such as the oak spice cupboard, ancient beams, doors and fittings. (The Norfolk winder staircase leading to the bedrooms may be challenging for those with mobility issues as they are narrow in parts).

New Norfolk pamments have been laid, and the tasteful furniture and décor have been chosen to reflect and enhance the age and history of the cottage, as well as the introduction of design classics from the 50’s. Opening up the patio doors will bring the beautiful garden into the kitchen, making it a perfect place to dine at any time of day in the warmer months.

The centre of the village is just a short walk away and the marshes and beach can be found just beyond.

Its individual feel and charm make this a special haven from which to explore the local Area of Outstanding Natural beauty.  Shop/Pub: within walking distance.

Guest Reviews

Early April, another great visit to this part of the world and to this cottage  Location is great and we have enjoyed being very relaxed and revisiting some of our favourite spots.

Beautiful cottage, so thoughtfully furnished and laid out.  A great centre to visit all our favourite places in North Norfolk.

A second idyllic week in this cottage this year. We’ve been coming to North Norfolk for 10 years, but this oasis is new discovery. So peaceful and the interior’s a total delight.  Evening swimming at Cley beach was a new treat.

The Birds, Kingston Upon Thames

A great week in a beautiful cottage.  We loved exploring the Cley \\nature Reserve and walking around Blakeney.  Evening walks to Wiveton Church involved watching owls circling the fields and muntjac deer wandering around.  Never been to this area before but will come back again.
