About
Glandford
Glandford is a quiet hamlet situated in the Glaven Valley, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Just two miles from Blakeney, it is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the unrivalled beauty of the countryside and the north Norfolk coastline. There are plenty of footpaths taking you in the direction of the sea with great birdwatching locations, or towards the gorgeous Georgian town of Holt with its boutiques, galleries and lots of lovely places to eat and drink.
Although Glandford is small, it still holds a treasure of things to explore and do. For wildlife lovers and birders, Cley Spey holds a large stock of telescopes, binoculars, tripods and outdoor clothing, gifts and books. They also have a range of local maps for wildlife walks – an essential for those who enjoy the wonderful wildlife that is found in this area.

Alongside Cley Spey is BIRDscapes gallery, one of the largest galleries in the area dedicated to original prints, paintings and sculptures showcasing the fabulous work of over 60 of the UK’s leading bird artists. The fantastic bird art ranges from contemporary to classic, semi-abstract to photo-realistic. Amongst their excellent conservation work and green aspirations, BIRDscapes have also produced a leaflet that guides visitors on a three-mile circular walk through the beautiful wooded Bayfield Estate, introducing them to the abundant birdlife.
Next door is the Art Café, North Norfolk’s only vegetarian restaurant, gallery and licensed cafe. A place to buy beautiful creations, enjoy fantastic, locally roasted coffee, indulge in delicious vegetarian food and cakes and relax in delightful surroundings. With a sunny courtyard for summer and a cosy wood-burning stove for the cold Norfolk winters, Art Cafe is an all year-round destination for foodies, coffee lovers and arty types.
Also, in Glandford is The Shell Museum, a small private trust relying entirely on the income generated from visitors. It is the oldest purpose-built museum in Norfolk, and houses the finest seashell collection in the United Kingdom. As well as thousands of exquisite seashells, the Museum also contains fossils, birds’ eggs, pottery, local archaeological finds and much more.
Old Church Hall, our cottage in Glandford, is situated on the boundary of the Shell Museum, with the Church of St Martin, reaching up behind it. A short distance along the road from Old Church Hall is the un-bridged ford, which whilst easily accessed by foot is too deep for cars, leaving our cottage in peaceful and quiet location. Our dog friendly bolthole for two is the perfect place to holiday for birdwatchers, dog walkers, romantic getaways and to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
